Fishing Report Ucluelet BC Canada July 31

Offshore fishing for salmon and halibut on the troll has been consistent this last week or so, with Big Bank and Outside Light producing good numbers of fish. There are some better sized Chinook starting to be caught in the mix using “Turd” variations and hootchies close to the bottom, or smaller spoons mid-water.

Coho have been aggressively feeding offshore on herring, squid, and krill, and are readily taking spoons and hootchies trolled at most depths. Hatchery fish are relatively well represented in the runs, although your best release technique will be tested while working through these active fish.

While there is an abundance of smaller halibut hitting trolled gear at Big Bank, most of the larger ones are being caught while anchored in a number of spots 10-17 miles out – weather dependent, of course. Salmon-bellies and white grubs on spreader setups have been a go-to for hooking up with something you might need to measure to ensure it’s not over 133cm!
